It all began with ALABASTER:
After becoming acquainted with the scriptures regarding Mary of Bethany's encounter with the Christ, I became curious about what the Bible describes as "Oil of Nard." In Bethany, Mary, sister of Lazarus, uses a pint of pure Nard to anoint Jesus’ feet. What was it and what must the fragrance have smelled like? Researching, I found no details that would lend to the ingredients that made up the Oil of Nard in Mary's Alabaster jar. At the very least, I wanted to experience Spikenard and so I was able to find pure oil of Spikenard in the United Kingdom. I ordered the oil and waited for its arrival. Upon receipt of my purchase, I opened the box, unwrapped its contents, opened the bottle and inhaled the aroma. While it was not what I would consider "lovely" it had an earthiness that I liked. Still, I couldn't help but wonder what aroma permeated the air that day that Mary so freely poured her oil upon the Master.
Late one evening after retiring from my tasks at home, I settled into bed but could not rest. I was led to the place where I kept my oils at the time. As if led by a power greater than myself, I began to combine oils together like never before. This time was different than any other time and it was for the first time I had ever written down the combination of oils. Of course, within that combination was Spikenard along with 12 other ingredients. I settled myself, sat on the end of the bed and inhaled the mystery blend. There was an awesome peace that came over me and I began to weep for in that moment, my burning desire to know what that Oil of Nard could have smelled like was fulfilled!
I will always treasure this blend for as much as I had pondered what the Oil of Nard must have smelled like that very day at the foot of Jesus, this is as close as I could hope to get. That is until I see Jesus face to face! Once you experience it, you'll know too that it is a gift truly from above!
